What Are We Learning?

Language Arts / Reading:

Spelling:  We will learn different ways to make the long /o/ sound.

Writing:  We will continue building our writing skills with our daily writing in our journals as well as continue to work on letter formation with our handwriting workbooks.

Reading:  WE ARE AMAZING!!!  Mrs. McCullough and Mrs. Vincenzo are amazed every day at how far we have all come with our reading and comprehension skills.  Our Reader's Workshop bags are filled with fiction and non-fiction books that we read every day (independently and with a partner).  WE LOVE READING!!!

Kids A-Z  (Raz Kids)  We had to update our app so things are a little different now.  The new app has so much more for us to read with.  You will need to input a new teacher's name for your class and go through that class as the other teacher name does not work anymore.  It might help to delete the app and then add the Kids A-Z app again so that the old class name disappears.   Here are the new class names:

1A:   msork0  (number not letter)
1B:   lvincenzo
1C:   jmccullough14
1D:   tceburks

***The passwords are still the same for each learner.

Social Studies:

In Social Studies, we will continue studying famous Americans and the influence they have made in our communities, states, and country! We can learn from positive choices made by these historical figures!

Math:

We will continue to use our skip counting skills to determine the value of a collection of pennies, nickel, and dimes.

Math Take Home Activity:
Have your child count a collection of coins.  Have your child tell you all the different ways to make a dollar.  ex. 4 quarters, 10 dimes, etc...

Science:
We will discuss that the natural world includes rocks, soil, and water that can be observed in cycles, pattern, and systems.

 Pics of the Week
It might not look like an exciting picture - - but January in first grade is AMAZING!!!  They really do grow up over the winter break.  We love their independence at this point in the year!!
We love working together during Texan Town!!

When your friends become your co-workers.......
They are working together to construct a building.  I can't wait to see how high it gets!
The girls from the General Store are here!  Good behavior and effort pays off when you have lots of Texan Bucks to spend at the store!  We are also learning how to save to be able to buy the larger items.
Sharing our thoughts.

working together!
