What Are We Learning?

Language Arts / Reading:

Next week's spelling rule:  /e/ at the end of a word and double /ee/ make the long /e/ sound.  example:  "he" and "feet"

We are continuing with non-fiction books during Reader's Workshop.  We are learning strategies to help us be fluent while retaining comprehension of our non-fiction books.  It is definitely challenging but first grade is up to the challenge!

Don't forget to download the Raz Kids App "Learning A to Z" so that your child can be reading leveled books at home!  There is also some great non-fiction literature in the app for you to practice with your child at home.

Social Studies:

We will be learning about the different types of communities and writing about how we can help our community.

Math:

Learners will apply basic fact strategies to add and subtract within 20, including making 10 and decomposing a number leading to a 10.
Math Take Home Activity:
Write 12 = 12 + 0.  Model the problem with pennies.  Ask your child to make 12 another way.  Take turns until you and your child model all the ways to make 12.  Please encourage your child to study their math facts.  💓

Science:

We will begin our unit on energy.  We will be discussing sounds and how sounds are an important part of our world.  They serve to warn us, inform us, and guide our actions to keep us safe.  We will listen to and identify a variety of sounds.
