***Valentines Day is coming!!  Our room moms are hard at work getting our party ready for us.  Please look for a note to come home about valentine cards for classmates.  Also, we are in need of valentine themed stickers, cut outs, etc. We will be decorating valentine bags in school to keep our cards in.  If you can donate anything we can use to decorate our bags that would be FABULOUS!  Please send them to school as soon as you can.  THANK YOU!!!!

***If you are finished with your valentine cards for the children in your class, you may bring them to school any day next week.

What Are We Learning?

Language Arts / Reading:

Spelling:  Adding suffixes to a root word

Reading/Writing:  We are so excited to announce that we have added HUNDREDS of leveled books to our browsing boxes!!  We can't wait to dive into all of the new books that were purchased for first grade!

Social Studies:

In Social Studies, we will continue studying famous Americans and the influence they have made in our communities, states, and country! We can learn from positive choices made by these historical figures!

In Mind Missions learned about Eleanor Roosevelt. She served in soup kitchens. We designed a ladle for serving soup. We also reflected on this lesson by looking at ways we care for others.

Math:

Learners will continue to practice telling time to the hour and half hour using analog and digital clocks.

Math Take Home Activity:
Say a time, such as half past 10:00.  Ask your child to describe where the hour and minute hand points at this time.

Science:
Learners will investigate soil to understand that soil is made from rock and mineral particles and organic matter.
