December 3rd - December 7th

Calendar:

December 7th - PTO Movie night in the gym  6:00   Polar Express!!!
December 20th - Class Winter Party 2:00  (All parents are invited!!)
December 21st - Early Release (12:15)
December 24th - January 4th - Winter Holiday, No School
January 7th - Back to school
January 8th - PTO meeting at 6:00-  All parents are welcome! 

Announcements:
**If you haven't updated your PTO profile (or never made one) this year, please go to www.tcepto.com and update your info.  This needs to be done every year.  PTO wants to make sure everyone is getting their information. 

**We can't wait to celebrate the season with our winter holiday party on December 20th (2:00 - 3:00).  Please look for an e-mail to come home soon from our amazing room moms!  We know they will need lots of help on this day!!

**Town Center First graders are collecting new, unwrapped toys for children in need.  We will be donating the toys to the Coppell Lions Club.  We will be collecting toys form now until December 19th. Please place new, unwrapped toys under the Christmas tree by the front office.  When you bring in your toy, please sign your name on an ornament and hang it on the tree.  Thank you so much for helping us!   

What Are We Learning?

Language Arts / Reading:

Spelling:   different ways to make the long /a/ sound.

Parts of speech:  Adjectives

Reading:  We will continue studying fairy tales, fables, and folk tales.  Next week we will concentrate on folk tales

Writing:  We will continue to use varying transitional words when we write

Social Studies:  

We will be continuing our unit on "Traditions and Customs" for the next few weeks. Our Mind Mission activity will be reading the fable "Filbert Fork" and creating a tool to get a filbert out of the jar! They will imagine, plan, design, improve and share, AND work collaboratively!!

**Don't forget to be working on your traditions and customs projects at home.  They are due next week!! Please make it easy and simple.  Just something for your child to explain what one tradition/custom is in your family.  If you have any questions, please e-mail your social studies teacher. 

Math: 

Learners will continue to use pictorial models and objects to solve word problems involving joining, combining, separating, and comparing sets up to 20.

Math Take Home Activity: 
Write 11-7=? on a sheet of paper.  Ask your child to find the difference and then write an addition sentence he or she can use to check the subtraction.

Science: 

We will focus on patterns that occur on Earth.  We have discussed the day and night cycle.  We will also be learning about changes in the sky and seasons.
First Grade Spotlight: 
1A:
1A is thrilled to spotlight Chris!  He arrives to school each day with a  beautiful smile and wonderful hugs.  When Chris grows up, he wants to become an engineer just like his dad.  In his free time, he loves to play soccer with his dad.  Chris loves math and science!  I know Chris will be an awesome engineer!  Go Chris!  1A loves you!  


1B:
1B is proud to spotlight Oren!  Oren is a very sweet learner and is a friend to everyone he meets.  He comes to school with a smile each day and always does his very best!  When he grows up he wants to be a scientist!  His favorite subject at school is reading.  When he is at home he likes to play with his toys and his favorite toy is a toy boat.  1B loves Oren!!! 

1C:
1C is so excited to spotlight Mason this week! He is a wonderful friend. He likes to eat mac and cheese and play videos games. At school, his favorite subject is math and he loves playing at recess. Mason is very observant and cheerful. He is also excited about the arrival of his first little brother! 1C loves Mason!
1D:
1D is thrilled to spotlight Insiah this week! She's a great friend! She's an excellent reader and writer. Insiah enjoys playing with her friends. She likes to play games with her family. She enjoys eating chicken nuggets and playing at the park.
