What Are We Learning?
Language Arts:

Reading During independent reading we are continuing working on reading our lists of sight words, as well as our leveled fiction and non-fiction books.  We are working toward our end of year goal of Level 16.  If your child is above level then he/she will continuing growing their reading in their appropriate level. We are so proud of our first grade readers!!

Writing:  We will continue working on narrative, expository, and "once upon a time" stories.  Our journal check sheet continues to be:
1.  Correct punctuation and capitals
2.  Using transition words throughout the story
3.  Topic sentence
4.  Closing sentence
We will look for organization of writing, development of ideas, and use of language and conventions.

Social Studies:  Next week we will talk about recycling and the effect that is has on our world.  How can one person or one school make a difference?

Math:  Learners will identify examples and non-examples of halves and fourths.  Learners will be partitioning two-dimensional figures into two and four fair shares or equal parts and describe the part using words.
Math Take Home ActivityHave your child draw a circle on a piece of paper.  Ask your child to draw a line so the circle shows 2 equal shares and 4 equal shares.

Science:
Learners will be learning about the parts of a plant and their purpose.
