April 15 - April 19

Calendar: 

April 16th - National "Wear Your Pajamas to School" Day
April 17th - Last Wacky Wednesday Schedule
april 18th - Skate Night at Interskate 6-8
April 19th - No School/Weather Day 
April 20th - Mrs. McCullough's birthday
April 22nd - NO SCHOOL  - teacher workday 
April 29th - TCE STEM Night  5:30 - 7:00  We hope to see everyone there!!!
May 10th - All library books are due for the year




FIELD TRIP:

Thank you to all the volunteers who came with us on our field trip.  We had a wonderful time visiting ATT stadium!! We love field trips!  

Conferences:
Due to the calendar and end of year assessments lasting until the end of May, we will not be having official end of year parent teacher conferences this year.  However, if you have unanswered questions and would like a parent teacher conference to answer them, please let your teacher know. 

What Are We Learning?
Language Arts:
     Spelling:  We had our last spelling test this week.  We will review past spelling rules next week 
1.  when to add /es/ and /s/
2.  how to change the spelling of the root word when adding /ed/ to the end of a word
3.  /ch/ /sh/ /th/ /ph/
     Reading During independent reading we are continuing working on reading our lists of sight words, as well as our leveled fiction and non-fiction books.  We are working toward our end of year goal of Level 16.  If your child is above level then he/she will continuing growing their reading in their appropriate level. We are so proud of our first grade readers!!
     Writing:  We will continue working on narrative, expository, and "once upon a time" stories.  Our journal check sheet continues to be:
1.  Correct punctuation and capitals
2.  Using transition words throughout the story
3.  Topic sentence
4.  Closing sentence
We will look for organization of writing, development of ideas, and use of language and conventions. 

Social Studies: We will continue to learn about mapping skills.  We will use a compass rose to tell directions, learn parts of a map, and work on map vocabulary words.

Math: Learners will distinguish between attributes that define a two-dimensional or three dimensional figure and attributes that do not define the shape.  

Math Take Home Activity: Play guess my shape with your child?  
I am a box.  I have 2 flat surfaces.  I have 1 curved surface.  What am I? 

Challenge riddle - I am a box.  I have 2 faces that are triangles.  I have 3 faces that are rectangles.  What am I?  

Science:  Animal life cycles and animal needs continue to be the focus in science this week.
